Tarik Tansu Yigit
Tarık Tansu Yiğit is a faculty member in the Department of American Culture and Literature at Başkent University, Ankara. His areas of interest include transnational aspects of the US Civil War Era, early Turkish-American relations, diasporas, and the intersection of death and life. Yigit pursued his doctoral research as a Fulbright Visiting Fellow at Harvard University History Department in 2017-18. His dissertation focuses on an earlier example of the ex-Confederate-Union reunion and narrates a group of veterans’ quests to restore their professional, masculine, and economic dignity as well as how they were able to reconcile in a profoundly foreign setting. Tentatively entitled "Ottoman-American Relations during the US Civil War Era and Further Thoughts on the Respective Political/Cultural Climates: " his current project focuses on diplomatic relations, the human dimension of the war with the Ottoman migrants and American missionaries, and the idea of "unionism" on both sides. Yigit’s most recent work, “Reconstructing the American Under the Most Unimaginable Conditions: Civil War Veterans in the 'Arabian Nights,'” appeared in the Journal of the Civil War Era
