 **Tamis Parron** is the WIGH Volkswagen Global Fellow. He received his PhD from the University of Sao Paulo in 2015, where his dissertation “The Politics of Slavery in the Age of Freedom: United States, Brazil, and Cuba, 1787-1846” was awarded best history dissertation by USP as well as winning the Capes Thesis Award for most outstanding history dissertation in Brazil that year. Parron was a fellow at UNIFESP (Federal University of the State of São Paulo) in 2015-2016 and will be Assistant Professor of History at Universidade Federal Fluminense in Rio de Janiero, Brazil after his time at Harvard. He is the author of *A política da escravidão no Império do Brasil, 1826-1865* (Civilização Brasileira, 2011), which received the Jabuti Award in the Humanities in 2012, and co-authored, with Rafael Marquese e Márcia Berbel, *Escravidão &amp; Política: Brasil e Cuba, 1790-1850* (Hucitec, 2010), which has been published in English as *Slavery and Politics: Brazil and Cuba, 1790-1850* (The University of New Mexico Press, 2016).

 Research Interests: Nineteenth-century political economy of black slavery from an encompassing comparative perspective.
