Matteo Giordano

Matteo Giordano is a PhD student in History at the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa, Italy. He holds a master's degree in European history from Columbia University. Before starting his doctoral studies, he was a Junior Research Fellow at the Luigi Einaudi Foundation, Turin. Matteo is generally interested in the complex interaction between state power, international political economy, ideology and technology. His research focuses on the history of autarky and developmental states in the global 1930s, with particular reference to fascist regimes and the Soviet Union. Among his research topics are economic dirigisme, import substitution, industrial-military buildup, balance of payments management efforts, technology transfers, and networks of technocratic elites.
