Casey Primel received his PhD from Columbia in Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies. His dissertation "Empire of Paper: Credit Instruments and Cotton Markets in Colonial Egypt, 1894-1914" explored the history of economics in colonial Egypt through the experiments of economists and statisticians around problems of valuation and market organization. His other research interests include material and conceptual histories of valuation and speculation, history of development expertise and the study of economic and financial practices, more generally. He is also the current editorial assistant for the journal *Comparative Studies of South Asia, Africa and the Middle East* and editor for its associated website *CSSAAME Borderlines*.
